“We are the Champions” is a family-friendly feature-length film about a fictional boys' soccer team, their exuberant parents, and a charismatic coach on a roller coaster ride to the fictional World Cup of Youth Soccer in Rio de Janeiro.
Twelve-year-old Dante Delgado is a gifted and passionate soccer player whose father would rather he play baseball. At the start of the film, Dante descends into a magical soccer wonderland, where he leads his team on an improbable run to a world title. Along the way, Dante’s gift is recognized and developed by Coach Ownit, a former soccer star, who puts the “play” back into “playing soccer.”
The soccer sequences will be authentic and performed by the most talented young players in America and abroad, under the guidance of our gifted professional coaches. Above all, the film offers an uplifting and inspiring message to young players everywhere about what it takes to become a champion.
Who We Are
We have assembled a world-class team of filmmakers and soccer experts, including writer/director Alan Jacobs and producer Elizabeth Avellán. We will be working closely with Major League Soccer youth academies and their trainers, including Austin FC and Houston Dynamo.
Writer/Director Alan Jacobs has directed numerous legendary actors, including James Coburn, Timothy Hutton, and Virginia Madsen, in films distributed by Sony, Miramax, and Netflix.
Elizabeth Avellán is one of the most successful film producers of all time. Her credits include over a dozen Hollywood films, including the Spy Kids series.
Who We Are Casting
We are conducting a nationwide search to play Dante, a 12-year-old boy with a passion and gift for soccer. We are recruiting primarily from the top youth soccer clubs to ensure the player can perform the soccer sequences.
Since Dante is the lead role, we are looking for a young player whose natural charm will win over the audience. A short video is enough to determine whether we need to see more.
